Photographer Joe Phelan visited the mural studio over the entire 4 years of the mural coming to life. He documented the process in this photo journal at Central Maine Papers.

October 14, 2023

The Hallowell Mural was officially unveiled on October 14, 2023 with a celebration, color guard by the Foreign Legion and keynote speakers. Article in the Kennebec Journal.

About the event

Speakers at the unveiling event included Governor Janet Mills, Representative Dan Shagoury, Hallowell Mayor George LaPointe and the mural artist Chris Cart.

After the ceremony Cart gave a talk and slideshow in City Hall about the mural, the process of creating the mural, some bits of history and some fun anecdotes of the time painting the mural. After the talk he answered questions about the mural, for more than an hour, from standing room only audience.
